HUD posted a notice to its Section 8 web page (see the following link) that notifies operators of Housing Choice Voucher programs that the VMS reporting period for December 2011 data has been accelerated. The December 2011 VMS reporting period starts Wednesday, January 4, 2012, and your reporting must be completed by Tuesday, January 17, 2012.

The reason for the accelerated reporting period is HUD’s need to have the December data to calculate PHA funding levels for 2012.

This reporting period is also shorter than the usual monthly VMS reporting period. Keep in mind that you may need to work with the Financial Management Center and your Financial Analyst. You will also need to review all reported months in 2011. If any corrections need to be made, you must use the new Prior Months Correction module. So start early.

HUD Notice

HUD announced on Friday, June 24th, their intent to review TRACS vouchers listed as “suspended” or “rejected” beginning on August 1, 2011. Housing Authorities may receive a notification informing them to submit the voucher(s) for manual review.
